PLAYING & ARRANGING
I play keys and sing backing vocals in a range of projects, particularly in jazz, blues and funk, and have arranged dozens of songs for 9-piece band. See here for details.
TEACHING
A large part of my work is teaching: in composition, arranging and songwriting. I have a lot of experience in helping young people develop their ideas as creative musicians. This has been related to GCSE and A level coursework but also as something extra-curricular. More details and references from parents can be found here.
I currently lead the GCSE Music Technology course at Conisborough College, Lewisham.
I’ve recently released a podcast series – ‘The Secret Life of Songs‘ – which explores ideas relating to meaning in pop songs. To date, it’s received over 3,000 downloads. Listen to episodes on sexuality in Dusty Springfield’s ‘Son of a Preacher Man’, on misogyny and rock music in John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’, on community leadership in Curtis Mayfield’s classic love song, ‘The Makings of You’, and much more.
CHOIRS
I run community choirs for people with disabilities in Perivale and Bromley. Click thru for more details.
